and the levels of interest in all aspects of Talent Management have never been higher.

Our customers are reporting great successes in using our software technology to improve the ways they manage their people.  Read all about their accomplishments in our six case studies.

Our product portfolio continues to be a real focus for our investment activities - after all by keeping our products feature-rich and easy to use, you'll be able to exploit your investment in our technology in more ways than you had imagined.  We released Version 5.0 of our Talent Management Suite to our User Group this month and it contains developments in Appraisal, Performance Management, and 360-degree feedback that will create the 'wows!' in your organisation.  What's more its available On-Demand to you 24x7, wherever you or your employees are in the world.  See what they thought about it below.

Our lead article in this issue will strike  a chord with many employees now returning from a long seasonal break - 'where's my career going in this organisation?'.  Conventional career planning just doesn't work any more - it fails to develop people cost-effectively and fails to retain them.  See what's changed in the article below.  What will your organisation's response be?

We typically see an increase in interest in Appraisal software at this time of year and it will be worth a look at our Talent 180 product that provides support for your process, competences, behaviours and objective setting practices.

If you are challenged to create a Competence Framework and need some help on how detailed it should be, then see our blog for some researched guidance here.

Finally, we are pleased to welcome Bedfordshire Police as the latest force to select our Talent Management software.  See why they chose us here.

Career Pathways and Planning – We have an App for that...

space
space

Career planning and retention has understandably fallen off the top of the agenda of many organisations over the past few years.  As your employees return from their holidays, many will have intentions to make changes in their career.  The question is no longer 'Are we doing enough to retain them', but 'If retention and high performance are an outcome, are we actually doing the right things now?'

Organisations have become more complex, more matrixed, much flatter and vastly more fluid over the years and it's become harder for employees to see where their future is and how to work their way through the organisational maze.  Career planning resources in booklets and on intranets are almost out of date as soon as they are published.

Career Apps (or Applications) are dynamic and data driven: based on the actual progress people make in terms of roles fulfilled and rate of progression. They engage individuals in their own career mapping process and go far beyond simple web sites that contain largely static and rapidly obsolete resources.

The career planning landscape has changed - find out how your organisation could respond here.

Enthusiasm for Talent Advance® at BPS
Coaching Conference

At the 1st International Congress of Coaching Psychology in London last month, Head Light unveiled the latest version of Talent Advance®, the on-line coaching platform within the Talent® suite.  End-users and representatives from coaching firms were impressed with the linkages made between assessment and development activities and also how it would facilitate more effective distance and telephone-based coaching.

We also introduced the coaching community to rare case studies of similar organisations making use of the Talent® platform under their own branding to provide bespoke 360-degree reviews and enhanced feedback and performance coaching sessions.  Visit our web site to discover how other coaching and HR service providers have been able to exploit their own Intellectual Property (such as leadership models, psychometrics and training programmes) using our technology here.

If you are a coach or HR service Provider and weren't able to go to the Congress but would like to hear more about benefitting from our technology and becoming a Partner, do get in touch here.

We're also exhibiting - so do drop by and meet us: we are on stand 160 and for those interested in the development of feedback skills, we are running a special 'Beat the Expert' programme using Talent FQ, our unique on-line assessment!

Beat the Expert - What's your Feedback Quotient (FQ)™?

space
space

We all give feedback – to varying levels of detail and success – but how effective are we at doing this?

Head Light's Head of Business Psychology Debbie Hance, has developed Talent FQ – a short online Situational Judgement Test which measures how effective your managers are likely to be at delivering performance enhancing and developmental feedback. Through her research, Debbie has identified and profiled the underpinning competences of those who are very skilled at giving feedback. This enabled us to develop an assessment with solid and evidence-based foundations which was then trialled and piloted with leading experts in the coaching and career development field.

Talent FQ makes use of our Talent Spotter assessment technology and challenges users to identify the effective and ineffective strategies when faced with a range of challenging feedback situations.

At Learning & Skills 2011, we are offering iPod Nanos to three lucky winners who achieve expert beating scores!  If you can't be there, do contact us here to have a chance anyway!
