December Newsletter

In this issue

We follow the key topic of our Summer newsletter of defining high performance in ways that allow the talent management processes of recruitment, progression and training and development to be underpinned objectively, with the second part of the article.  This part is focused on the process for determining the most effective assessment strategy based on these sound foundations.

We are pleased to announce that our Talent360 software now supports the Professional Skills for Government (PSG) framework.  The implementation of PSG differs by government department and with Talent360 you can customise this civil service-wide initiative to suit your needs.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, over £12BN per year is wasted by employers selecting the wrong people.  This is pretty shocking news to come from an industry that cites it UK turnover at £26BN.  So the first question is, whose money is being wasted?  See below.

We hope you enjoy this newsletter and if you would like to discuss any items within it, please contact me, Ian Lee-Emery, on 0118 989 3555 or 'reply' and your note will find its way to me.

Finally, and on behalf of all of us here at Head Light Communications, I'd like to wish you a peaceful festive season.

Determining your assessment strategy

We outline some of the main considerations when selecting an assessment strategy when looking at key talent management processes such as recruitment, selection for progression and learning and development.  Clearly 360 reviews for recruitment purposes aren't going to work but have you thought about using 360 in the context of selection for progression?  Some have and are doing it.  Revisit our Summer newsletter article here on the subject establishing sound foundations or jump in here to assessment strategies.

£12BN wasted in £26BN - it can't be, that's almost 50%!

If these figures really are the case, and the REC claim to know, then it's clear that it's probably not the recruitment industry footing the lion share of this bill - after all, if any business 'wasted' close to 50% of its turnover if wouldn't be in business for long!

So it's the employers that are incurring these costs both internally and externally.  As each step of the recruitment process requires an increase in time and cost per candidate (from CV sifting, to interviewing and on to assessment centres), this investment soon mounts up.  But what if you could eliminate unsuitable candidates right from the start and fast-track the most promising?
